We recently started working with a very dedicated group of women who own the business bebo mia.  They provide fertility, pregnancy and post-partum support services in Toronto.  They are also qualified doulas.  A doula provides a wide range of support to mothers during pregnancy, birth and labour.  They are interested in improving the search engine optimization of their WordPress based website for search terms such as doulas in Toronto.  We are off to a good start with them and look forward to improved results.

Good News

Posted on: September 29th, 2011 by admin No Comments

In yesterdays post we discussed the fact that we registered a new domain name for www.barbarachittickart.com and put a brief, temporary webpage on the new URL focussed on a few keywords.  The good news is that less than 12 hours later not only has Google found and indexed the new domain name we are near the top of page one for both “barbara chittick” and “equine artisit in Simcoe County”.  It is always great to get off to a fast start!

Getting a New Domain Name Indexed

Posted on: September 28th, 2011 by admin No Comments

When you register a brand new domain name it can take a while for the search engines to find it.  What you don’t want to do is let it sit idle while a new website is being built.  This can take a while so you should be taking advantage of that time to get the site indexed for a few main keywords.  What we do is post a brief webpage that is optimized for those keywords but also make it clear that a full website is on its way.  In this way the site is already indexed and getting some traction when the full website is launched.  We are taking this approach for a local artist, Barbara Chittick.  We registered a new URL today, http://www.barbarachittickart.com/  and posted a brief page to the site.  It is optimized for her name and for the search term equine artist in Simcoe County. We can  now carry on building her new website knowing that her SEO is getting established at the same time.

Lighting Audits for Commercial Buildings

Posted on: September 7th, 2011 by admin No Comments

Tomorrow I have the opportunity to visit with a company that specializes in lighting audits for commercial buildings.  There are tremendous savings to be had by retrofitting to energy efficient lighting in all buildings including commercial buildings.

The first step in understanding the potential energy savings begins with a lighting audit of your existing environment. As simple as counting light fixtures sounds, many facilities have complex layouts and a wide assortment of fixture types, making this seemingly simple task somewhat challenging.  They will complete a full lighting audit of your commercial building as part of their service.
In addition to lighting audits they also provide energy audits for commercial buildings.
You can learn more about their lighting audits for commercial buildings by visiting their website.

Optimize Your Website in Barrie

On August 23rd, 2011 I made a presentation to my BNI Networking Group on “5 Signs that a website needs help to be found online”.  Here are the 5 points:

Number 1:
Ask how many leads they get on a monthly basis that are attributable to their website.
If the answer is very few or none they need help.

Number 2:
Do a search for the company’s main product or service.
If they are not found on the first two pages they need help.
Note: if they can’t be found for their business name they really need help.

Number 3:
Look at the page title on their Home Page
If the page title doesn’t refer to their main product or service they need help.
Note: if the page title on their Home page is “Home” or “Welcome” they really need help.

Number 4:
Review the text on the websites pages; are they using their keywords?
If their main product/service keywords are not used frequently, they need help.

Number 5:
Ask when was the last time they updated their website and if they have access to edit and add content themselves.
If it has been more than 2 months since they made any updates to their website and they can’t make any changes themselves, they need help.

Google Places

Posted on: June 17th, 2011 by admin No Comments

I often make the statement that “the fastest way to page 1 is through Google Places”.  Google recently made some changes so that businesses that have physical locations can be better found in geographic searches.  An example of a geographic search is “contractors in barrie”.  Google will give significant page 1 real estate to those businesses that have a Google Places listing in combination with a well optimized website.  Here is an example of a search for our client Check the Trades Inc., the search term is “contractors in barrie“:

The key to success is first be sure you have verified your businesses Places listing.  Once you have done that you can then optimize it for the keywords you want to be found for and get the completion rating to 100%.  Don’t forget about getting some reviews on your listing, they can be very influential.  You also need to be sure that the website that is connected to your Places account is also well optimized.  It is the two working together that get the best results.
